As most of my handful of readers know, David Steffen and I have started a zine together called Diabolical Plots. It is a site for writers and fans of the genre that keeps those of us that are simply too brilliant for real life to entertain, speculative fiction. We cover the full gamut of medium in which this genre lives including movies and video games.
Great writing websites…
by Anthony on 25. Jun, 2009 in Writing
As an aspiring writer I find the internet to be an extremely valuable tool as well as a colossal drain on my writing time. There are fantastic resources available to new writers that quite frankly I would not have survived without. On the other hand, even these great resources can be an excuse not to [...]
Honorable Mention for the second quarter in a row…
by Anthony on 22. Jun, 2009 in Writing
Thanks for Joni over at The Writers of the Future contest; I now know that I’ve received my second Honorable Mention in a row. What does that mean? Not a lot really. Don’t get me wrong, it means that my story was in the top 50 or so out of thousands of entries but beyond [...]
What’s goin on?
by Anthony on 22. Jun, 2009 in Writing
Well my writing is back into high gear. I mailed a new story off today to the Writers of the Future contest. That makes five straight quarters that I have entered. I haven’t heard anything from last quarter yet so I’m still holding out hope that my name is on the short list. We’ll see. [...]
And update along with a warning of change…
by Anthony on 08. Jun, 2009 in Personal
There has been a lot going on lately in my world. Not least among those is the purchase of a new home. After much wrangling and wrestling my wife and me along with our son, my in-laws and a crazy old uncle will be moving into a new 7000+ square foot home in the next few weeks. We close on the property this week and I am very excited to get moved in.
Working Title
by Anthony on 11. Apr, 2009 in Personal, Writing
This post is titled Working Title because I finally feel like I’m working again in my writing. I’ve sent out three stories in the past two weeks; old stories that have been out around the block before but stories with promise. One story went out to the Writers of the Future contest while the other [...]
Time for some Accountability…
by Anthony on 13. Mar, 2009 in Writing
I’ll start this post off with some good news. My story for the previous quarter of The Writers of the Future contest received an honorable mention. This is my first story to receive anything more than a form rejection from them since I began submitting, three quarters ago, so it’s a good milestone. However, my [...]
An update on my writing…
by Anthony on 12. Oct, 2008 in Writing
I’ve made a few posts over the past few months stating goals and competitions that I have involved myself in; specifically my goal to keep at least three stories on the market and my participation in The Race competition with a group of talented aspiring writers. Here is a quick update: On my goal to [...]
Interesting Advice…
by Anthony on 30. Sep, 2008 in Writing
When I first started this writing thing I often read that it was a lonely craft. So many people wrote about how they felt like no one really wanted them to succeed and that if they did succeed, no one would notice. I thought this was interesting but dispatched it as not my problem. Well [...]
The Race
by Anthony on 22. Sep, 2008 in Writing
Dean Wesley Smith has a great article in his archives about a competition that he and several writer friends embarked on early in his career. The basics premise of this competition was to encourage prolific writing and to generate professional sales. Here is how it works. For a given week, every short story you have [...]
